Way Forward assists people experiencing long-term financial hardship who can repay a portion of their debts, but not the full amount. We do this by negotiating affordable payment arrangements. Clients make one payment to Way Forward which is then distributed to creditors on a pro rata basis.

Way Forward is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity. It is funded by donations from creditors.

The organisation was set up in 2018, with support from the four major banks, the ABA and the consumer movement, including Financial Counselling Australia. The service is modelled on a similar charity in the United Kingdom called StepChange.
